Police have one of two suspects in custody that they believe were involved in an armed robbery of a real estate office in Kirksville, Mo. Two masked men reportedly robbed Wayman Realty last Thursday afternoon at about 4:15 p.m., holding a gun to owner Frank Wayman’s head and a large knife to his throat.
The two armed men forced Wayman to open a safe at the business and fled with more than $3,000 in cash as well as gold coins that were kept in the safe. Wayman was not injured.
Kevin McCormick of Louisiana, Mo., was arrested in connection with the robbery and charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Police found $489 in cash and a large black-handled knife on McCormick when he was arrested.
Police are still investigating the identity of the other masked suspect. Passersby saw both men flee and drop items like money and paperwork with Wayman’s name on it before getting into the car, KTVO.com reports.
One of the suspects first entered the brokerage carrying a gas can and claiming he needed gasoline. He then asked to use the restroom. When the man came out of the restroom, he placed a gun against Wayman’s head and demanded the combination to the brokerage’s safe, Wayman recounted to KTVO.com. A second man then entered and placed a machete against Wayman’s throat.
